The Year of the Rooter

Overwatch is known for it’s cast of diverse and lovable characters and keeping to a theme of diversity, Blizzard has launched a Lunar New Year event for their popular first-person shooter game. The event began on January 24th and continues until February 13th. This event is similar to past events including: The Summer Games, Halloween Event, and Winter Wonderland. This new event, The Year of the Rooster follows past events in offering players a plethora of goodies in the form of new skins, sprays, emotes, and even a new Capture-the-Flag Brawl mode.

POPS! POPS! MORE POPS!

During this years London Toy Fair, Funko announced new additions to their Overwatch POP Collection. The first wave included Widowmaker, Soldier 76 (GameStop exclusive), Reaper, Pharah (Blizzard Store exclusive), Winston, & Tracer. Wave two of the launch adds more of some of our favorite characters including Mei, McCree, Lucio, and Symmetra. The launch also releases a 6-inch Reinhardt and D.Va POP, similar to the Winston that was released prior.

Valentine’s Day Event?

It was speculated that Overwatch would begin a Valentine’s Day Event after the closing of The Year of the Rooster Event. However, Overwatch Facebook managers have denied the rumor. Interestingly, data miners have found a voice clips of Genji and Mercy that could be Valentine’s Day related. If there is no event, this tells us that we can at least expect SOME goodies.

Bastion Buff

Blizzard has confirmed on their forums that our favorite robot unit will be receiving a buff. Most defensive characters have seen some tweaks since the game’s launch. Bastion is one who has been kind of left on the back burner and now the Overwatch team has begun the process of making some necessary changes.

These changes include:

Recon Mode – Lowered spread and increased magazine size, to help with general viability in this mode.

Sentry Mode – We’re looking at focusing this mode into more of a tank-buster and barrier-buster mode, while also making it feel less suicidal to be transformed. To that end we’re testing stuff like increased spread and removing headshots, but taking less damage while transformed.

Self-Repair – We’ve been testing a few big changes to this that are feeling really good so far. Currently our internal build has Bastion able to use Self-Repair while moving and also having it no longer interrupted when taking damage. To balance that out it is now on a resource system (similar to the route D.Va’s defense matrix went). These changes have turned this ability from a more niche rarely used ability, to a much more powerful and core survivability tool.

These changes are likely to be seen in Overwatch’s next PTR.
